YTY Supports Dialysis Patients to Obtain Critical Treatment

As a sign of our continued commitment to individual well-being and community care, YTY is pleased to have concluded a month-long sponsorship of multiple dialysis treatments for 20 needy patients. This was done in partnership with the Manjung Dialysis Centre, a local non-profit organisation providing life-saving kidney care to individuals from around the community, including low-income patients.
According to the Malaysian Health Ministry, one in seven Malaysians suffers from kidney disease with a growing number of patients each year requiring crucial dialysis treatments. While local NGOs and non-profit organisations provide subsidised care, the cost of dialysis treatments is still prohibitive for the “B40” income category, which represents the lowest 40% of Malaysian wage earners. Dialysis patients typically require 12 treatments each month. The cost of such treatments represents on average 88% of the national minimum wage, making it almost unaffordable for those in the B40 category.
Aliza Khalid, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at YTY, notes, “As a leading participant within the healthcare supply chain, we feel a moral obligation not just to ensure the well-being of our employees but also the health and welfare of individuals located within the communities in which we operate. This latest CSR activity is just one of many that we have completed this year that allows us to give back to our community, support those that are the most financially vulnerable, and generally tighten the social compact we have with our neighbors and neighborhoods.”
Aliza goes on to note “While it is important to promote healthy lifestyles, it is equally important to support patient care and medical treatment to help vulnerable populations have clear and timely prognosis and a better quality of life. This will ultimately translate into longer life expectancies. Helping to offset dialysis treatment costs of RM 26,400 for 20 low income patients allowed YTY to play a small, but meaningful, part in ensuring these individuals can continue to receive critical renal care, live a normal and predictable lifestyle, and allow them to remain gainfully employed, so they can continue to take care of their families and loved ones who depend on them.”
The Honorary Treasurer of the Manjung Dialysis Centre, Madam Cheng Heng Ling, notes “Out of the 88 patients seeking treatment at our centre, 20 patients fall into the B40 income category. It is these individuals that often struggle to access dialysis treatments on a month-to-month basis. YTY’s sponsorship of 240 dialysis treatments targeted towards these 20 B40 patients over the course of a month greatly helped to alleviate their financial burden and ensured they received appropriate medical treatment. We express our deep appreciation to YTY for this very generous and targeted financial contribution.”
