YTY Partners with Rise Against Hunger to Combat Food Insecurity

YTY recently demonstrated its compassion and commitment towards improving the lives of those less fortunate by preparing and distributing a whopping 20,000 meals to families in need.  The event was conducted in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger’s Malaysian chapter.  Rise Against Hunger is an international relief organization that fights hunger around the world by coordinating the distribution of food and other life-saving aid, as well as assisting communities or segments of population that face high levels of food insecurity.
YTY’s CSR initiatives are coordinated across key “pillars of goodness,” which define both the areas of focus, and the types of activities in which YTY participates.  The collaboration with Rise Against Hunger falls under the goodness pillar of “Individual Well-being,” which focuses on initiatives related to physical and mental health, nutrition and healthy living, and sports and other forms of physical and meditative activity.  YTY’s support of this CSR initiative is also directly aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG) 2: Zero Hunger, which strives to eliminate hunger and improve food security for vulnerable populations.
YTY was pleased to have had 75 passionate employee volunteers come together to pack the meals for families in Kampar, Perak.  The packed meals consisted of long grain white rice, dhal beans, dehydrated vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.  When cooked together, the combination provides a highly nutritious, protein-based vegetarian meal.
The meals were specifically targeted for distribution to low-income households, defined as those with incomes of less than RM 500 per month, thereby providing them with vital nutrition at a time when inflation and the general cost of living has made getting healthy food a challenge for this segment of society.  Once packed, the meals were distributed by Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sikh Perak, a registered NGO in Perak, to ensure that the meals reached families most in need of them.
Aliza Khalid, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, notes, “At YTY, we believe that healthy and happy communities can only come about when the individuals within them are well-nourished, well-fed and healthy in their own right.  Our commitment to individual well-being, as demonstrated through this event, reflects a broader vision that we have consistently advocated, which is to uplift and support those in need.  We are proud of our enthusiastic employee volunteers, whose commitment and passion for community service made this initiative possible.”
Tiki Teh, the President of Rise Against Hunger’s Malaysia chapter, also shared his thoughts by noting, “Hunger is a solvable problem, but requires collective action at each step of the way.  We are grateful to large Malaysian organizations like YTY for their partnership, not only for the monetary support they provide as part of these initiatives, but also for the enthusiasm and sincere desire shown by YTY employees to want to help Malaysian citizens in need.  With this activity, we have taken another step forward in assisting vulnerable communities, fighting hunger, and improving the lives of individuals through better health and nutrition.”
