YTY Participates in Industry Dialogue on Building a Future-Ready Workforce
- Friday, May 8, 2026
YTY was invited to speak at a recent symposium entitled “From Compliance to Competitiveness: Malaysia’s Path to a Future-Ready Workforce.” This event was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was hosted by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).
The event on May 7, 2026, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, business executives, and workforce experts to discuss the evolving labor landscape and the collective actions needed to strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global economy. While framed as a discussion on labor compliance, the symposium’s objective was broader and more strategic: to position responsible labor practices as a source of competitive advantage for Malaysia rather than merely a regulatory obligation.
YTY was requested by the conference organizers to participate as a panel speaker for a segment titled “Inclusive Growth: Raising the Bar for Migrant Worker Protection.” Representing the company was Ms. Harinder Kaur, Vice President of Social Compliance & Corporate Governance. The panel also included distinguished representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a leading UN agency in the field of migration, and the North South Initiative, a respected Malaysian civil society and human rights organization. The panel was moderated by Hafizin Tajudin from the BowerGroupAsia, a leading government affairs and strategic advisory firm in the region.
During the session panelists discussed updated responsible labor practices standards and the need to create a safe, fair, and inclusive workplaces for all employees, particularly migrant workers. Practical insights were shared on addressing labor-related risks, enhancing migrant worker welfare, and strengthening collaboration across the value chain to build greater operational resilience. The speakers were aligned in their view that protecting migrant workers was not only a moral responsibility but a business imperative. Organizations prioritizing employee well-being, ethical recruitment, and high workforce standards are better positioned to succeed given the increasingly elevated standards of social compliance now required by customers around the world.
The symposium served as a meaningful platform overall to engage in issues relating to workforce transformation, labor standards, social protection, and supply chain transparency. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Rebecca Sta Maria, Chairman and Director for Democracy and Economic Affairs, officiated the gathering with opening remarks that centered around Malaysia’s need to compete on the basis of trust, transparency, governance, and workforce quality. Her unambiguous, but conciliatory comments, set the tone for the passionate, thoughtful, and deliberate engagement that ensued during the remainder of the event.
As a longstanding member of AMCHAM, YTY was honored to participate in, and contribute to, these important conversations. At YTY, responsible employment, ethical recruitment, and an ongoing focus on social compliance excellence remain integral to our journey. We remain deeply focused on our mission to maintain a workplace environment of dignity and respect for all employees, especially and including migrant workers, and remain committed to doing our part to build a more resilient and future-ready workforce.
