YTY Donates One Million Gloves to Fight the Coronavirus
- Friday, January 31, 2020
YTY is pleased to donate one million single-use Nitrile Examination gloves to healthcare workers in China to assist them to fight the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which has thus far infected over 10,000 people and taken the lives of 213.
The donation was part of a larger pledge by leading manufacturers in Malaysia of single-use Examination gloves made from Natural Rubber and Nitrile. Contributing members pledged a total of 18 million single-use Examination gloves that are currently in the process of being sent to China in batches, to allow healthcare workers to protect themselves against this virus, which has now been declared a “global emergency” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Present at the press conference announcing the donation were Minister for Primary Industries, Teresa Kok, China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Bai Tian, and Dr. Subramanium, Vice President of the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), and representatives from the manufacturers that had donated. In attendance to represent YTY was Anil Taneja, Executive Vice President, Strategic Partnerships.
Anil noted “We are deeply saddened with the situation in Wuhan, and the impact it has had not only in China, but across the world. We pray for the families of those who have passed from contracting this deadly virus, but remain optimistic that a cure can be found in the near-term given the coordinated global response that has emerged. Till then, YTY will do our part – just as we are now – to ensure that healthcare workers, who are at the frontline of dealing with the epidemic, are provided with high-quality hand-protection solutions so that they remain safe and protected.”
