- Friday, December 13, 2024
YTY is pleased to have been the primary corporate sponsor for the district of Manjung’s largest annual community event, the Manjung Run & Ride 2024 (MRR 2024), which was organized by the Manjung Cycling Club. Staged across two days, between December 7-8, 2024, the event, which was initially expected to attract 2,000 participants, ultimately registered over 3,000 runners and cyclists, including 120 employees from YTY, highlighting the strong enthusiasm by residents in and around the Manjung area to participate. As the main sponsor, YTY donated RM 85,000, which was used to set-up, promote, and fund the entire activity over the two days.
A number of senior community and government leaders were in attendance to officiate the event. Some of these leaders included Toh Seri Bijaya Lieutenant Colonel Dato’ Shaharudin bin Haji Nazari, Great People of Manjung Colony Chief (Orang Besar Jajahan Manjung); Tuan Hasbullah bin Abdul Rahman, Manjung District Police Chief; Aida binti Riboet, Assistant District Officer for Manjung; Issamudin bin Ibrahim, Manjung Municipal Council Director of Social and Community Development; Azlan bin Hussain, Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports Officer for Manjung; Mohd Nor Fadzli bin Mohamed Moster, Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade, and Cost of Living Officer for Manjung and Shahrul Nazmie bin Sharudin, President of Manjung Cycling Club.
Representing YTY was Tuan Syed Al-Jffri, Head of Strategic Partnerships. Tuan Syed commented, “MRR 2024 is more than just an athletic event — it is a celebration of unity, growth, and spirit. Events like this inspire people to embrace an active lifestyle, strengthen family bonds, and connect with local residents. As a company deeply rooted in the Manjung community, YTY is proud to contribute to initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents in a fun and purposeful manner.”
Shahrul Nazmie bin Sharudin, President of Manjung Cycling Club, noted “We are deeply grateful to YTY for being the primary corporate sponsor this year. YTY’s significant donation was instrumental in allowing us to expand participation, promote the event, and invite local businesses to engage. Given the attendance records, MRR 2024 appears to have been a resounding success, and we could not have done it without YTY’s immense support. Not only did YTY provide a considerable financial contribution, but they participated, attended, and involved themself in every aspect of the event, which was thrilling to see.”
MRR 2024 has evolved beyond its athletic roots to become a full-fledged community event. The latest gathering provided a platform for local business to shine. Dozens of entrepreneurs took the opportunity to promote goods and services by, and for, the Manjung community. A number of community events were also staged during this period, which included:
•
Jualan Rahmah. In collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade, YTY provided a platform for the sale of subsidized groceries to event participants and visitors seeking financial relief.
•
Awareness and Education Initiatives. These included a drug abuse awareness program by The Malaysian National Drug Agency; recruitment drives by local colleges and universities; and student loan information by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation.
•
Health and Wellness Activities. Free general health screenings and dental checks were provided by the local health clinic, along with massage services provided by disadvantaged groups through the Perak Islamic Religious Council.
•
Sports Activities. A street soccer tournament for children under 10 was organized, as was an archery competition conducted by Qamar Archery Academy.
•
Government Services On-the-Go. Booths by the local municipal council, police, and traffic agencies were erected each day to provide various services to the public.
Aliza Khalid, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at YTY, noted, “We are pleased to have continued our involvement as a primary sponsor of MRR. I am heartened that so many YTY employees, and members of the greater Manjung community, enthusiastically embraced this event. MRR 2024 brought together people, communities, and individuals, of all types around the common goals of healthy living, good fun, and community spirit. I cannot think of a better way to end the year than to celebrate together like this. We look forward to future such events, and remain steadfast in our desire to support activities that foster greater community engagement.”
