In conjunction with Malaysia’s National Day, YTY organized a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu 10 Lekir, focusing on an important topic, “Anti-Bullying and Crime Prevention for Children.” The workshop was the main event during the school’s month-long National Day 2024 campaign which ends on Malaysia Day on September 16, 2024. This event fits squarely within YTY’s “Pillars of Goodness” CSR framework, specifically the Community Growth pillar.
Attended by 290 students from the school’s fourth, fifth and sixth grade classes, the workshop aimed to educate and empower young minds with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the challenges they face today. Under the guidance of an experienced trainer and the assistance of eight YTY staff volunteers, the workshop meticulously covered a wide variety of areas critical to the mental and physical well-being of young students.
Among the topics discussed were what forms the basis of healthy and long-lasting friendships. A segment on conflict resolution offered practical methods for dealing with disagreements constructively. Students studied bullying, and why bullies engage in such behaviour, as well as how to respond in such a situation to avoid on-going victimization. The workshop also provided tips on how students can avoid becoming victims of crime, including strategies for staying safe in various situations, and who to contact in an emergency.
Ravi Ragunathan, Vice President of Human Resources at YTY, notes, “In a post-Covid environment, we are a strong advocate for the mental health and safety of young children in our community, which is why we organized this workshop. The lessons learned here will not only promote a foundation of respect and empathy, allowing children to navigate the increasingly complex interpersonal dynamics of today, but will also sensitize them to signs of bullying and criminal activity, which ultimately will keep them safe, protected, and healthy.”
In addition to sponsoring the anti-bullying and crime prevention workshop, YTY donated a significant number of HVAC equipment to help cool and keep ventilated the primary assembly hall, and also donated a high-quality projector along with a large projection screen to allow teachers to use multimedia and technology to immersively engage with their students.
Zainab Ahmad, Headmistress of Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu 10 Lekir notes, “I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to YTY for organising this workshop. The response from our students was overwhelmingly positive, and we truly believe the valuable lessons they learned here today will make them better prepared for their journey both tomorrow and beyond.”
Madam Ahmad goes on to note, “We are also thankful for the latest equipment donated by YTY. Over the years, YTY has consistently supported SK Batu 10 Lekir by sponsoring the repair and construction of the school’s assembly area; donating computers for the school’s resource centre; providing white goods such as lockers, fridges, washing machines and dryers, for the school dormitories; and giving us tables and chairs for the school canteen. We cannot thank YTY enough for their consistent and generous donations to ensure that our faculty and staff have the necessary equipment to allow them to effectively teach our students.
Aliza Haryati Khalid, YTY’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility notes, “We have received an overwhelmingly positive response from students, expressed in the heartfelt notes submitted to YTY at the end of the two-day program. It is evident that this topic is relevant to the students and much needed at this time. In fact, upon hearing of the success of this workshop, teachers from nearby schools have reached out with requests for YTY to organize similar workshops for their students. This interest speaks to the importance of such initiatives to build a safer and more supportive school environment. YTY is committed to promoting the well-being of children in our community, and looks forward to organizing events like this in the future to educate and inform young leaders.”
