YTY Provides Critical Food and Supplies to Flood Victims in Malaysia and Indonesia
- Tuesday, December 16, 2025
Recent weeks have brought torrential rainfall across large parts of Malaysia and Indonesia, triggering extensive flooding and landslides and resulting in the displacement of thousands of families in each country. YTY has responded quickly to the situation in each location with disaster relief efforts that have provided critical supplies to affected communities during this period.
In Malaysia, continuous rainfall from Cyclone Senyar, which formed end-November, caused widespread flooding and eventually resulted in the evacuation of 35,000 residents nationwide. Perak State, located in the north, was particularly hard hit, with over 5,000 residents forced to evacuate. In Manjung district, where YTY’s Malaysian manufacturing facilities are located, over 160 families were displaced. The day the cyclone hit, YTY immediately mobilized 11 employee volunteers to deliver essential provisions that included food, medical supplies, infant formula, and sanitary materials to all of the affected individuals, who were relocated to temporary relief centers at SK Batu Lekir 10 and SK Sungai Tiram.
A similar story played out in Indonesia. In North Sumatra, where YTY’s wholly owned subsidiary, Medisafe Technologies, is located, unyielding rain over the past two weeks has caused riverbanks to swell, resulting in widespread floods, landslides, and significant damage to property. Over a million residents have been displaced, highlighting the widespread impact of the torrential rain. Medisafe immediately stepped up in the early days, and has continued to contribute essential materials to relief agencies for them to distribute to families in need. Till date, Medisafe has provided over 500 bags of rice and amenities so displaced families can get access to basic food and essentials.
Aliza Khalid, YTY Group’s Head of CSR, notes, “We are deeply saddened by the destruction and havoc caused by the unusually heavy rains this monsoon season. Entire neighborhoods have been displaced due to severe flooding or the risk of landslides. YTY is glad to have contributed by providing essential supplies to families in need in both Malaysia and Indonesia. I’m equally proud of how our volunteer employees immediately stepped-up to deliver essential supplies with urgency, care, and compassion to communities in need.”
Aliza goes on to note, “Our recent efforts continue our longstanding commitment to our employees, our people, and our communities. Over the years, YTY has consistently stepped forward during times of hardship, periods of crises, or where urgent help has been required. Today, we stand in solidarity with the people of Malaysia and Indonesia, and hope that those affected can find ways to rebuild their homes and their lives, and return to a sense of normalcy as soon as possible.”
