YTY Powers Ahead with
Sustainability Agenda via Solar Transition

YTY is pleased to announce it has completed Phase 1 of its solar energy transition strategy with the installation and commissioning of 5.8 MWp (megawatt-peak) of solar panels across its manufacturing facilities in North Malaysia. Phase 2 of this initiative, which will be completed in December, will add an additional 1 MWp, providing a sum total of nearly 7 MWp of solar energy.
Vikram Hora, YTY Group CEO, notes “We are pleased to have executed in a timely manner on Phase 1 of the solar implementation targets we had set out earlier, particularly as it aligns with our broader target to reduce dependency on traditional coal-linked fuel sources. Installing nearly 7 MWp of solar energy by year-end will position YTY as a leader in our sector in respect of installed solar capacity and will meaningfully advance our sustainability agenda.”
Prior to commencing our solar energy transition strategy, approvals were secured from the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) under Malaysia’s Self-Consumption (SELCO) scheme, to ensure regulatory compliance. Once both phases are complete, over 6% of YTY Malaysia’s total energy needs will be met with solar electricity. This will result in a reduction of an estimated 5,600 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
In addition to supporting YTY’s own sustainability agenda, this project also aligns with a number of Malaysia’s strategic energy transition roadmaps. These include the National Energy Transition Roadmap, which targets reaching 70% renewable capacity by 2050 with solar power as the dominant source; the Malaysia Renewable Energy Roadmap, which guides the development of renewable energy strategies to achieve national decarbonization goals; and the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, which encourages private sector contribution to achieve the low-carbon targets that have been established at the federal level.
Vikram goes on to note “Beyond the transition to solar, YTY is accelerating a broader suite of sustainability initiatives designed to reduce its environmental footprint across multiple fronts. The Group has intensified efforts in energy efficiency and responsible resource management, including systematic waste reduction programs, enhanced recycling practices, and optimized water-use strategies that incorporate both conservation and treatment improvements.
Vikram concludes by noting “YTY is also investing in upgraded equipment and monitoring systems to better track and manage consumption patterns in real time, enabling more informed decision-making and long-term environmental stewardship. These efforts reflect a holistic commitment to sustainability, one that extends beyond just renewable energy, and which will continue to position the company at the forefront of responsible manufacturing within the glove industry.”
