YTY Marks World Food Day with Community Outreach Efforts
- Monday, October 20, 2025
YTY is pleased to have collaborated with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) to engage with, and provide assistance to, Kuala Lumpur’s most vulnerable communities in support of World Food Day 2025. Backed by a significant monetary donation from YTY, the initiative brought together scores of volunteers that included YTY staff, family members, and friends, who dedicated their weekend to serving those in need.
Kechara Soup Kitchen has been serving marginalized communities in Malaysia for over 17 years. With a vision to ensure nobody in Malaysia is deprived of basic necessities due to income disparity, KSK focuses on the homeless, urban poor, and Orang Asli (Indigenous People) populations. Its Street Medic team is an informal network of medically trained or informed volunteers that provide first aid support, critical medical assessments, and dispensation of medication to those most in need. Kechara Soup Kitchen was selected as a partner for this initiative based on its track record of providing humanitarian assistance to marginalized communities within Malaysia.
The theme of this year’s World Food Day is “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.” The theme was selected due to an urgent need to drive collective action at a global level to address food security challenges and build more sustainable food ecosystems. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN entity that founded, coordinates, and sets the annual theme for World Food Day, and whose mission is to bring governments, organizations, businesses, and individuals together to inspire collective action for more resilient agri networks and supply links.
On October 18, YTY and Kechara Soup Kitchen volunteers delivered 500 kilograms of essential provisions in the afternoon that included personal care and food items to underprivileged individuals and families in and around the city. The outreach efforts focused on addressing the daily challenges faced by the urban poor by providing them with access to basic food and household necessities. As night fell, the focus shifted to KSK’s Street Medic team where YTY volunteers joined a mobile team of medical staff to provide assistance and medication to homeless individuals in and around Kuala Lumpur. This roving medical team addressed a range of ailments, including tending to wounds, evaluating chronic conditions, and providing basic medicinal dispensation for those in need.
Aliza Khalid, YTY Group Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, notes, “Our partnership with Kechara Soup Kitchen this year in support of World Food Day has been truly wonderful. I am pleased we could provide monetary contributions in the form of essential food supplies and medical assistance to some of the most marginalized and underserved populations within the country, whilst treating these individuals with respect and dignity. I am also amazed at the generosity, compassion, and care shown by YTY volunteers, who enthusiastically spent time during the weekend to support these humanitarian care and relief missions.”
This CSR activity is one of many that YTY has lead and participated in this year, as we continue to be guided by our YTY Pillars of Goodness, which outlines the company’s mission and ongoing commitment to uplift individuals and communities through acts of kindness, support, and volunteerism.
