YTY Illuminates Lekir with Solar Streetlights to Enhance Community Safety & Security
- Tuesday, January 20, 2026
As a reflection of our continued commitment to community welfare and corporate responsibility, YTY recently funded the installation of ten solar-powered streetlights along an unlit and often accident-prone stretch of road near our YTY Lekir manufacturing site. This initiative, undertaken in close collaboration with the Manjung Road Works Department (JKR), significantly enhances nighttime visibility and safety for road users, which includes YTY employees, pedestrians, passersby, and local residents. In addition, the increased illumination will serve to deter petty crime.
YTY’s corporate support responds to growing safety concerns in the area given increasing traffic density especially due to nearby access points from the new West Coast Expressway (WCE). YTY specifically opted for solar-paneled lighting which, in addition to providing high-intensity LED illumination, will reduce the environmental impact of these essential public amenities. Furthermore, given their solar-powered nature, the newly installed streetlights will ensure continuous operation in the event of the occasional power irregularity or interruption while aligning with broader national targets for clean energy backed public infrastructure.
The installation of the solar streetlights was carried out in accordance with JKR’s technical requirements. To ensure that the streetlights will be appropriately managed by JKR in the years ahead, YTY recently hosted a handover ceremony with JKR representatives. Speaking at the handover ceremony Mohd Izham bin Aziz, Manjung District Assistant Engineer (Electric) remarked, “This stretch of road has required better lighting for some time now. We are grateful to YTY for taking the initiative to install these solar streetlights as this will significantly reduce the risk of accidents and support the wellbeing of the local community.”
Reflecting on the project, Aliza Khalid, YTY’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, noted, “At YTY, we remain focused on addressing the needs of the communities around us. The solar streetlights represent a meaningful addition to the area, enhancing safety, improving mobility, and contributing to a safer overall environment. This initiative builds on a number of recent efforts by YTY to serve residents in the Manjung District. Collectively, these actions reinforce YTY’s role not just as a responsible manufacturer, but as a committed community partner dedicated to strengthening, enhancing, and uplifting the neighborhoods in which we operate.”
