YTY Donates Over RM 300k to Rebuild Community Places of Worship
- Monday, October 21, 2024
YTY has always believed in the importance of inclusivity, community well-being, and a shared respect for people from all backgrounds, creeds, and religions. Given our non-denominational stance, we are pleased to announce we have donated over RM 300,000 in the preceding period to rebuild multiple community places of worship.
The contributions were provided between June and October 2024, and involved support of four different projects based on outreach efforts by community leaders. The funds were used primarily to address buildings, or sections of buildings, that were in significant need of repair either due to their age, or because they had been severely damaged by inclement weather.
Financial assistance was specifically provided to a Muslim Surau, Surau Nur Al-Hidayah, Taman Mohd Wazir, located in Batu 10 Lekir; a Hindu Temple, Sri Subramaniar Paripalana Sabah, located in Sitiawan; and a Sikh Gurdwara, Gurdwara Sahib Greentown, located in Ipoh. In addition, our wholly-owned subsidiary in Indonesia, Medisafe Technologies, provided similar assistance to a Sikh Gurdwara in their local community, Gurdwara Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji.
YTY’s CSR initiatives are coordinated across key “pillars of goodness,” which define both the areas of focus, and the types of activities in which YTY participates. The support provided for these rebuilding efforts falls under the goodness pillar of “Community Growth,” which focuses on empowering local populations, improving infrastructure, fostering economic development, and enhancing the overall quality of life in the communities that YTY is part of.
Aliza Khalid, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at YTY, notes, “Our support of this initiative is not just about restoring physical infrastructure, it’s about supporting the foundational spaces that bring people together in faith, service, and solidarity. We understand that these sacred spaces provide spiritual guidance, foster intergenerational bonds, and often serve as hubs for essential services such as education, meals, and community outreach. Rebuilding them ensures that their positive impact can continue to be felt by all. We are humbled to play a part in ensuring that these centers of spiritual excellence have been revitalized, and look forward to continuing to support further such initiatives for all faiths that strengthen the fabric of our diverse society.”
